Central Park provides a country retreat from city
stresses, as well as an endless wonder of sites that change with
the season. Some of the best known spots--such as Bethesda
Fountain, Belvedere Castle, the Poets’ Walk and Wollman Rink--are
reached by paths that cross graceful bridges. The Bow Bridge
may be the most famous of these, but the Gapstow Bridge, the Pine
Bank Arch and designer Calvert Vaux’s cast-iron bridges,
which surround the reservoir, all contribute to a sense of walking
into a time less rushed than ours.
